Seed for the birds you want to see

Different birds like different seed. Here's what to put out to bring in the birds you're hoping for.

Cardinals

Safflower, black oil sunflower and sunflower hearts. Safflower is a cardinal favorite, and squirrels and blackbirds usually leave it alone.

Goldfinches & finches

Nyjer (thistle), finch mix and sunflower chips in a thistle or tube feeder.

Woodpeckers

Suet cakes like our woodpecker blend, plus peanuts. Suet is especially helpful in winter.

Blue jays

Peanuts in the shell and black oil sunflower.

Hummingbirds & orioles

Hummingbird nectar and oriole nectar from spring through early fall.
